Family and Coming Out

Coming out to family is not one conversation. It could be a dozen of them, with people whose reactions you can’t control.

We help you plan it. Which one comes first, what you say, what you do if it goes badly, and who on that list never has to be told at all.

Working through how you feel about any of it is work you do in therapy, and our sister practice, Arrive Therapy, provides that. Coaching helps with the planning.

  • The order you
    tell people

  • Rehearsing
    the hard ones

  • Who doesn’t
    need to know

  • Kids and
    co-parents

  • Holidays and
    big events

  • A plan
    for after

What your coach does

  • Map the order, and who can wait

  • Rehearse until you can get through it

  • Draft it in writing, when that is easier than saying it

  • Decide who never has to be told

  • Time it around holidays and family events

  • Plan where you go if it goes badly

What your coach does not do

Your coach is not a therapist and not a crisis line. If a conversation puts your housing, your safety, or your custody at risk, we will help you get to someone who handles that, and we will keep working the logistics alongside them.
